During the summer, Saint Peter hosts third Sunday picnics. On the third Sunday of every month, both parishes gather together for an afternoon of fellowship and -- what else? -- food. This year we have had our picnics by the creek at Laurence Windham's, by the river at the Wellon's, the park, and also here, at R.C. Sproul Jr.'s house. We figured we should put up at least one of these great afternoons as a photo gallery.

Even all the fifteen passanger vans can't distract from the beauty of Mendota.

Here is part of the food line, waiting for something.

Likely, they are waiting for Jennifer Humphrey to stop this whole fellowship thing and get that cake inside so they can eat it.

The back yard, leading up into the woods, where many of the children spent the afternoon.

Speaking of children, here is one our favorites, precious little Aoife Daugherty (pron.: Ee-fuh). Some of you may remember when she was hospitalized and the church called out for help. The Daugherty's were overwhelmed, and the prayers of God's saints were heard. Aeife made a quick and full recovery, and went on to get the heart surgery that she needed.

Campbell Sproul is trying to give golf nut Eric Owens tips on the best kind of putter to use.

As is common here, several generations of God's covenant people are in attendance.

Here are two older generations. The elder Owenses (Owens'? Owens's? Owenses's? I can never get that stuff right) flank their son Eric and his lovely bride Lindsay. Eric and Lindsay Owens celebrated their first year of marriage this day.

The front porch. On this side, the men gather to discuss deep theology. No, wait ... Don Kiser is present (to the left of R.C. in the green shirt and to the right of Ben Bullen in the blue). Don is likely telling a humorous tale of himself doing something really dumb for an old guy.

On the east side of the same porch, the women are gathered together to discuss whatever it is women talk about. Cooking good food, I think.

Around the corner from the women, we come to the music festival. Whenever the church comes together, lots of instruments come out.

Here it is from the other side, with a throng of listeners gathered.

One of the Barfield girls playing her violin.

A Mehl boy pounding out a neat tune on a guitar that is bigger than him.

Young master Wellons taps away on the hammered dulcimer. His parents liked this idea much better than a drum set.

And Ken Griffith paused between playing and taking a drink. Somehow, a Smythe girl got in the picture and took all the attention. R.C. wanted to get out his mandolin, but for some reason didn't. It would have been nice to have him jamming as well. All in all, a great day.
