Couples Camp Photos - March 29-31, 2007 All photos copyright 2010 Highlands Ministries. Not to be used in any way without permission.
Below are a collection of photographs of our most recent Couples Camp. Our campers, Highlands Ministries staff, and members of Saint Peter had a delightful time during this camp and want to share the fun with everyone.
The view from here. The view from the basement of R.C. Sproul Jr. being overdone, we give you a view from the hospitality house of Don Kiser, where the campers ate Thursday night. This view, by the way, is fairly common in Mendota.
Couples Camp attendees Paul and Fern, from Wisconsin, apparently enjoying the weekend.
Jay and Sarah came to Couples Camp all the way from Virginia!
Steve and Nancy, from Colorado, enjoy the hospitality of the Kiser family, who hosted dinner for the Couples Campers. (Jay and Eric Owens try desperately to stick their heads in the picture.)
 Dante Tremayne and Camper Steve.
Campers Jonathan and Christy, from Blacksburg Virginia, brought along the newest member of their family, their firstborn, Phillip, who is six-weeks old here.
Couples Camper Jonathan, with Laurence Windham. Laurence is discussing the quantities of food he can consume. Unfortunately, we do not have a picture of Jonathan's lovely wife Christy. We don't know how we missed that. Sorry, Jonathan.
Bob and Diane, also from Virginia, discuss the rural beauty of Mendota, Virginia, with Eric Owens.
Brian and Erin Tilton, members of Saint Peter Presbyterian Church, also joined us for Couples Camp. This photo of them is actually taken after worship one Sunday, as we missed taking their picture during camp.
On Friday, Highlands Ministries hosted a softball game, dinner, and a barn dance for our campers and members of Saint Peter Presbyterian Church (along with whoever else wanted to come). Here, R.C. Sproul Jr. lives out his dream of being a pitcher during the softball game.
Fern hits the ball deep into the infield. Later in the game, the ball hit Fern. She's okay, but Saint Peter member Robert McIntyre (the tall guy reaching up in the previous photo, far right in this one), who threw the ball, still feels bad about it.
Lefty Jay smacks a line drive into the outfield.
Saint Peter member Doug Kersey gets a homerun off of a pitch from R.C.
Abigail, daughter of a member of Saint Peter, and one of the many little people who played, swings at one of R.C. Sproul Jr.'s wild pitches. The photographer nearly caught this one with his head.
After moving a safe distance away, the photographer shot Steve - the self proclaimed oldest Couples Camper, softball player and barn dancer - as he shot the ball into the outfield.
This isn't a pitch. This is R.C. reaching out in frustration as people keep getting hits off his pitches.
Later, the multi-talented Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. works the barbeque grill, cooking up lots of hamburgers and hotdogs.
Hungry yet? That was some juicy meat.
 The main food table.
The line goes up the stairs and out the door.
Darby and Reilly, two of R.C.'s favorite children.
Samantha "Peanut" Tremayne, one of Dante's favorite children.
Two more favorite children. The one on the left, Erin Claire, belongs to R.C. Sproul Jr., the other one, Lydia, belongs to another family of Saint Peter Presbyterian Church.
This little camera ham, Elijah, demanded his picture be taken. Who could resist that food covered face?
This is what everybody came for, the dancing. A regular treat for Saint Peter Presbyterian Church and the Highlands Ministries, over a hundred folks came out to do some old-fashioned barn dancing. (Don't pay attention the the lack of a barn in this picture. Our barn dances have gotten so big that we have been unable to get a barn big enough to hold everyone.) This particular dance, which started the festivities, is called the Grand March.
The band, Maker's Mark. The caller, Blake Saunders, was too busy teaching folks to do a dance to stay still long enough for a picture with the band.
Sarah and Jay, and Nancy and Steve getting ready to cut the rug - er, asphalt. Note Jay doing his hillbilly impersonation.
Fern and Paul keeping the beat during a classic square dance. Notice that it is dark. The dance ran on for over two and a half hours, from 7:00 until after 9:30pm.
Madeline and Samantha Tremayne, daughters of Highlands Ministries staff member Dante Tremayne, ran hard, played well, and danced until they dropped, as did many, many other beautiful children this night.
On Saturday night, several campers joined the staff of the Highlands Ministries at The Tavern in Abingdon. The Tavern is the oldest continually run restaurant in Virginia; a beautiful and culturally rich place to eat.
R.C. Sproul Jr. discusses his favorite plate, the Black and Bleu.
Laurence Windham discusses R.C.'s favorite plate, the Black and Bleu.
By now, Steve and Nancy are salivating for R.C.'s favorite plate, the Black and Bleu.
All this talk about food - did you notice the beautiful stonework?
