"For almost a biblical generation, the ministry of Dr. R.C. Sproul has been transforming the convictions of evangelicals," says Edmund Clowney. He describes Dr. Sproul as "a morning star of a new reformation" whose teaching "brought robust Calvinism back into American evangelicalism."
It is customary to pay tribute to a scholar who has had an illustrious career with a festschrift, a collection of essays written in his honor. No modern-day theologian is more worthy of honor than Dr. R.C. Sproul, who has done so much to promote a thorough understanding of the Reformed faith among the laity. And so his son has gathered together ten essays by friends and students of Dr. Sproul, five on the five points of Calvinism, and five on the five solas of the Reformation.
In the spirit of Dr. Sproul's own writing, these essays are a clarion call to a richer understanding and appreciation of the Christian faith. Essayists include Douglas Wilson, John MacArthur, Keith Mathison, and Jay Adams.
"My father ... has always believed that theology belongs to everyone," says Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. in the introduction. "He has made it the center of his life's work, like that thundering bull Martin Luther, to teach the laity the fullness of the holiness of God, which finds its expression in the Reformed faith.
"We honor my father, then, by creating a book for everyone. What you hold is not a dusty, erudite tome, but a heartfelt celebration of the doctrines that define the Reformed faith and so define my father's ministry .... Our goal is not that the ranks of those who see my father as a hero will swell, but rather that our vision of our true Hero will swell. Our goal, like Calvin's, is that as we understand the doctrines of grace better, we will worship God better."
