The impetus for this book came from a variety of sources. As homeschooling parents, we often find that the available teaching materials fall short of what we are seeking in terms of real Biblical precepts and mindset. We are trying to inculcate Christian thought into our teaching at every step. What we find is that often times even books published by well recognized Christian publishers lack in any serious attempt to teach a distinctively Christian perspective. The authors many times write and teach from a humanistic worldview hardly realizing that their mindset was basically the same as that of the enemies of the church.

After all, why should any Christian teacher and parent assume that the content of the discipline is only that which the humanists define it as being? It seems that, of all people, Christians should be defining what the content of a discipline is according to God's Word of truth rather than that of the anti-Christian consensus. Why should we agree to let the enemies of the faith decide what the proper content is for any area of study? Rather, Christian scholars should search out truth and create the content of the discipline based on underlying precepts from God's Word. We may not be able to stop the world from going its own way but must we endorse that way as well? Must we agree with the world that its ideas are to lead and that Christian students are to tacitly accept that leadership as valid?

If Christ is Lord of all then He must reign across all of the disciplines as their King. He is not to be set aside as somehow outside the "content of the discipline." He is the content of the discipline. Let the world look in from the outside and wonder how they missed the content. Let them ask how it was that they stumbled over the foundation stone. May we no longer fawn at the feet of the humanist scholars, always eager to agree that their ideas are to be the standard and God's are embarrassingly irrelevant. His ideas are not just for theology classes. Biblical thought is superior to pagan thought and needs to be taught as it relates to every discipline. This is the work of the Christian educator. This text illuminates many of the foundational Biblical ideas as they relate to a wide variety of areas of which each is a building block of civilization. And, of course, building a Christian civilization is the essence of building Christ's kingdom in this world.
